A Tranquil Angle: The Three Levels of Floating
Origin
Since we started Floating, the intention has been to bring thoughtful, reliable, affordable and well-curated events to people around the world.
The following three-level, nine-step process is the result of an 18 month empirical analysis of our 400+ events.
As we’ve transitioned into a platform, these steps have enabled us to maintain the quality of our brand while empowering other creators, curators, and organizers to host their own events.
Purpose
Why & how are we here?
Intention: ensure that the reason for gathering is conveyed and shared with the guide, host and attendees every step of the way.
Aesthetic: lights, projections, signage, greeters, environment; we encourage simplicity. Spaces that need the least amount of adjustments. If adjustments are made, they should compliment the location and be done with care and detail.
Fidelity: ensuring that every attendee has the highest quality experience. If it’s sound: the audio quality is acceptable and consistent for all those participating. If it’s a hike: the route is well-planned and can support the size of the group. If it’s food: there is enough for everyone.
People
Create value where value did not previously exist.
Guide: a Guide is a broad term for the individual leading the event: creator, musician, artist, composer, naturalist, chef, comedian, poet, etc. It is our responsibility as a brand to ensure they are provided with adequate financial compensation, enhanced exposure and support vs. traditional avenues, and a deeper connection with the attendees. A guide’s direct personal, emotional or spiritual connection to the environment is also a nice to have.
Host: the host is the representative of the location or the location itself. Similar to how we engage with Guides, it’s important that the host is provided with adequate financial support to help sustain its operation. Floating events should be perceived as more thoughtful and caring by the host when compared to other events. We support and celebrate the host’s history and story.
Attendee: our direct and consistent support of the Guide & Host make it possible for each attendee to appreciate their experience in purest form and derive the most value from it. Whether they are solo, with friends, with partners or with family, being surrounded by other like-minded individuals very moving and powerful.
Promise
The intangible pillars that support our community.
Accessible: open and available for all who wish to attend, regardless of financial status.
Inclusive: welcoming to any who do attend.
Reliable: continue to show up and enable the hosting of thoughtful gatherings on a consistent basis; spectacles alone don’t build a long-term community. Floating starts and ends with reliability.
